Ginger Turmeric Syrup

This sweet and spicy ginger turmeric syrup is sure to give you the immune boost you need during cold and flu season. This spicy duo combines the benefits of both turmeric and ginger, two potent ingredients known for their potential immune-boosting properties.

Turmeric and ginger both contain compounds with anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin, a compound found in turmeric, and gingerol, a compound found in ginger, have been shown to help reduce inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation can weaken the immune system, so reducing inflammation can support overall immune health. Both turmeric and ginger can aid digestion and promote a healthy gut. A healthy gut is crucial for overall well-being and a strong immune system, as a significant portion of the immune system resides in the gut.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup dried or 3 fresh bulbs of Turmeric

1/4 cup dried or 3 fresh bulbs of Ginger

2 Tbs. Black Pepper

2 Whole Cloves of Garlic

1/4 Cup Honey

3 Cups of Water

Optional:

2 pieces of Star Anise

2 Tbs. ground Cinnamon

Directions:

Grate the turmeric and ginger if using fresh. Combine all ingredients except for honey in a pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes or until liquid is reduced by half. Using cheesecloth or a mesh strainer strain the ingredients into a clean glass jar such as a mason jar. Allow to cool until just warm and add honey. Stir until completely dissolved. Store covered in the refrigerator and take 2 tablespoons daily for an immunity boost or every 2-3 hours when sick.

Notes: Turmeric is used as a natural dye and will easily stain your fingers or countertops. Cover your workspace and use gloves to prevent staining.

Add a few tablespoons of syrup to warm water or milk for a sweet and spicy tea or latte.
